FIRST LADY LANDSCAPE AND ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION STRATEGY LAUNCH.
TARDA was honored to have been part of the official launch of the First Lady’s Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Strategy that will see her Office plant 500 million trees by 2032.The launch which was held at Karura Forest is a big step that will help propel the country towards achieving the 15billion trees target by 2032.
Speaking during the launch, the First Lady noted the need for like-minded stakeholders to partner and collaborate in an effort to amplify the restoration efforts on a national scale and called on all Kenyans to plant at least 30 trees per year and be part of the #Jazamiti campaign that is led by the government. Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya during the launch also noted that part of the Kenya Kwanza’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) efforts aimed at the growing of fruit trees and woodlots with 30% of the 15billion trees target being fruit trees.
TARDA’s participation in the launch illuminated our commitment to the tree growing campaign which also falls under our core mandate of conservation. Our current efforts in collaboration with other Regional Development Authorities, under the guidance of the State Department for ASALs and Regional Development, has been a focus on the development of a Strategy that will guide our production of 5billion trees by 2032.
