HEAD OF PUBLIC SERVICE VISITS TANA DELTA FOOD SECURITY PROJECT

The Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority through Tana Delta Irrigation Project recently played host to the Chief of Staff and the Head of Public Service Mr. Felix Kosgei during the month of July 2023, during an inspection tour of development projects in the Tana River County.

On hand to receive him on-site was Principal Secretary Dr. Idris Dokota accompanied by TARDA Team led by the Chairman Mr. Patrick Gichohi and Managing Director Mr. Liban Roba.

During the inspection tour, Mr. Kosgei, visited the rehabilitated Sailoni Headworks where he commended the Authority for the efforts made so far noting that the Authority was a key driver of the Government’s commitment to attain food security and community empowerment. He further encouraged the Authority to leverage on the private sector to fully reap the benefits of enhanced productivity in the Project and to adopt efficient technologies in rice production.

The Government has promised an additional Kshs. 300 million in the Project’s Second Expansion Phase that will see 500 acres put under rice production at the TDIP farm.

The Principal Secretary Dr. Dokota thereafter accompanied the Managing Director Mr. Roba during a community engagement forum which was focused on sharing information between the local community and the Authority’s Management on the expansion of the acres under rice production in efforts geared towards a food secure nation by meeting the existing rice deficit in the country as per the Government’s agenda. Increase in acreage will further create employment opportunities for the neighbouring communities among the villages under the Authority’s purview.
