REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCIES URGED TO PRIORITIZE CLIMATE ACTION
Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of East African Community, ASALs & Regional Development, Rebecca Miano recently hosted a meeting for the Managing Directors of the country’s Regional Development Authorities (RDAs) as well as the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) in Mombasa County. She was accompanied by the Principal Secretary for State Department for ASALs and Regional Development, Dr. Idris Dokota.
The Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority was represented at the meeting by the Managing Director, Mr. Liban Roba.
The focus of the meeting was on Building Climate Resilience by encouraging and strengthening collaboration and synergy among all stakeholders and recognizing that fostering effective national socio-economic development requires a unified approach. The discussions also centered on how RDAs & NDMA can collectively enhance capacity to address the challenges posed by climate change, environmental sustainability and resilience-building efforts and to champion the Presidential Directive of planting 15 Billion Trees by the year 2032. The discussions also focused on this year’s Africa Climate Week which will take place from 4-8 September 2023 in Nairobi.
