ENHANCING AGRICULTURAL RESILIENCE THROUGH IRRIGATION: KIBARABARI SMALLHOLDER PROJECT IN FOCUS.
Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority is proud to report significant progress at the Kibarabari Smallholder Irrigation Project in Kandara Constituency. With a target irrigation area of 431 acres and poised to impact over 1,500 people both directly and indirectly.
Key milestones that have been achieved include:
- Rehabilitation and elevation of the intake weir, now fully operational and at capacity.
Installation of a 1.6km water pipeline system, with mainline pipes of 160mm and 110mm, ensuring efficient water delivery.
- Functional air valve chambers and air valves inspected and confirmed.
- Adequate pressure maintained in the conveyance mainline, supporting reliable sprinkler irrigation systems across the scheme.
Water is now flowing into the farms along the pipeline, transforming livelihoods through promotion of irrigation and reducing reliance on rain-fed agriculture. This project is part of TARDA’s broader commitment to harnessing water resources for sustainable agriculture, food security and economic development across the Tana and Athi River Basins.
We thank all stakeholders for their collaboration in making this Project a success and reaffirm our dedication to climate-resilient development and community empowerment.
