BRIDGING INNOVATION AND RIVER BASIN RESILIENCE!
TARDA had the pleasure of hosting the University of Nairobi C4DLab Innovation Fellows — a dynamic team of young professionals focused on developing technology-driven and community-rooted solutions for climate adaptation. During the session, TARDA’s Managing Director Mr. Liban Roba offered an insightful breakdown of the Authority’s mandate — from integrated river basin development to sustainable water management, catchment restoration, and food security initiatives across 19 counties. He also candidly unpacked the real challenges TARDA faces:
- The rising intensity of floods and droughts in the Tana and Athi basins
- The widening gap between data and decision-making
- And the urgent need for innovation that goes beyond theory into practical, scalable systems
The Fellows are developing nature-based adaptation models that harness the power of ecosystems to build climate resilience. These models aim to deliver ripple solutions, including smart early warning systems for floods and droughts, sustainable land use practices and community-driven conservation efforts that enhance both environmental stability and local livelihoods. We look forward to continued collaboration as we build resilient ecosystems and safeguard lives and livelihoods in our river basins.
