TARDA HOLDS PUBLIC PARTICIPATION ON TRANSFORMATIVE KATOTHYA IRRIGATION PROJECT IN MASINGA.
Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority convened a high-impact public participation forum at Ngetani Market in Masinga Central Location, Masinga Sub-County, to engage local stakeholders on the upcoming Katothya Smallholder Irrigation Project.
Designed to serve as a lifeline for the community, the Project will directly benefit 250 households in Masinga, Machakos County—unlocking a new era of climate-resilient farming and food security.
The proposed project entails the construction of a river intake, a 2.5-kilometre mainline, 1.8 kilometers of sub-mains, a solar-powered pumping system and a 300 cubic meters water storage reservoir. These components are not just infrastructure—they represent hope for improved livelihoods, economic dignity and year-round productivity for farming families in the region.
As TARDA continues to pursue its mandate of basin-based development, the voices gathered in Ngetani reaffirmed the power of community engagement in delivering sustainable change. The Katothya Irrigation Project is a testament to what’s possible when local knowledge, strategic investment and inclusive planning converge to build not just systems—but resilience.
This project reflects TARDA’s broader commitment to community-led development and climate-smart agriculture—placing people, water, and ecosystems at the center of our collective future.
