TARDA AND PARTNERS EMPOWER YOUTH THROUGH TREE PLANTING AT MANG’U HIGH SCHOOL
Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority staff from the Nairobi Office, Athi Basin, and Tana Basin actively participated in the recently held Education Day organised by the President’s Award Kenya at Mang’u High School.The event, which brought together over 30 Institutions and nearly 2,000 young participants provided a platform to celebrate young people who have demonstrated commitment to personal growth, discipline, and community impact through the President’s Award–Kenya Programme, which continues to nurture responsible and confident youth.
Representing the Managing Director of Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority, Joses K. Mugambi delivered the official address highlighting the growing collaboration between TARDA and The President’s Award Kenya’s, including plans to establish botanical nurseries starting at Mang’u High School to strengthen youth-led conservation initiatives.The event saw 6,000 tree seedlings planted and 10,000 seedlings distributed to participating institutions to advance restoration efforts.
TARDA supported the initiative with 6,000 seedlings, including:
2,000 seedlings from the Kiambere Nursery
4,000 seedlings donated through the support of the Kenya Forest Service.
An additional 10,000 seedlings were provided by other partners, demonstrating the power of collective action in restoring our landscapes.

Distinguished guests included The President’s Award Kenya’s CEO Margaret Kiogora, Adam Israel, and Peter N. Muna, who joined TARDA staff and students in planting ceremonial trees at the school. This initiative is more than a tree planting exercise; it is about empowering young people to become custodians of our environment while strengthening Kenya’s journey toward a greener and more climate-resilient future.
