GOVERNMENT PERFORMANCE AND DELIVERY ROADSHOW LANDS AT THE MINISTRY OF EAC,ASALS & REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority (TARDA) was honored to have participated among other Regional Development Authorities under their parent Ministry for East African Community, the ASALS and Regional Development in the Government Performance and Delivery Roadshow held at the KICC.
The roadshow which is led by the Government Steering Committee is a self- assessment exercise aimed at reviewing the achievements of the different Ministries, State Departments and Agencies in their actualization of Programmes and Projects that are in line with the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda in the past 16 months of the Kenya Kwanza Government. The exercise also aims at identifying the challenges faced during their roll out and how well they can be addressed.
The team, led by CS, Hon. Penina Malonza, accompanied by the PS, ASALs and Regional Development Kello Harsama made presentations on the different Projects they have implemented, and which have had great impact on the lives of many Kenyans. Some of the key achievements have been; efficiently responding to humanitarian emergencies such as during the recent Elnino rains as well as the co-ordination of ASALs Development Programmes such as the Tana Delta Irrigation Project(TDIP) being implemented by TARDA, that has improved the quality of life of the people in Tana River County and especially the villages around the Project through provision of clean water for domestic consumption as well as for small scale irrigation of their farms.
The CS also outlined some of her Ministry’s key commitments which include the transformation of Regional Development Authorities into economic drivers through Public Private Partnerships as well as the development of an integrated resilience Programme which will entail developing water harvesting, irrigation, piping and market infrastructure in the ASALs region.
