Masinga Irrigation Project
The Masinga Irrigation Project was conceptualized as part of Masinga multipurpose dam. The total farm is approximately 12,000Ha out of which Masinga reservoir occupy about 9,000Ha. The first phase of the project Implementation was done in 1989.
Masinga irrigation project is situated in Embu County in Mbeere South Sub County. The project was started in 1989 as an irrigation project with 60Ha fully opened up for irrigation. The project did very well with various horticultural crops especially French beans.
In early 2005, the irrigation operations were stalled due to lack of water for irrigation. This was caused by Masinga dam low water levels that followed the subsequent years to date. The project has over 200Ha arable land that can be used for horticulture mainly characterized by black cotton soils.
Currently the project is majoring on livestock; the project has 34 steers for fattening and 103 breeding Galla goats.
