LIVELIHOODS ENHANCEMENT PROJECT IN LOWER TANA BASIN
Overall Objective: To train the nomadic Tana River for sustainable and reliable water supply; for improved water and food security for sustainable livelihoods in Lower Tana Basin.
Expected outputs:
- 5 major Tana River avulsions restored.
- 1 water diversion weir constructed at Kitere.
- 5km long Kitere shortcut channel restored.
- 36Km of river channel de-silted (from Kitere to Sailoni).
- 17 Village Irrigation schemes; approx 10,000ha restored.
- 26 communities/villages water supply restored.
- 5,000ha irrigation infrastructure under sustainable commercial rice production established.
- 30,000 tons of milled rice produced annually.
- 66,400 peoples’ livelihoods Improved.
- A River Monitoring and Training Unit established.
- A GIS and Data warehouse established and Operational.
