Kiambere Honey Refinery

The Kiambere Honey refinery project was started to provide the farming community with market for honey which is one of the main income generating activities within the region. The refinery is located in Tana basin which is one of the country’s most unique natural resources. The Basin has exceptional resource values that include; water, arable land, forests, wildlife, minerals among other natural resources. This presents an excellent opportunity for the country to advance socio-economic development by utilizing the natural resources within the river basins.

In order to maximize the utilization, there was need to coordinate the utilization on a sustainable basis that encouraged integrated development. The Refinery was set up to encourage the locals to improve afforestation through planting of trees for apiaries setting to discourage deforestation in the ASAL areas.
