TARDA JOINS THE REST OF THE WORLD IN WORLD WETLANDS DAY CELEBRATION.
TARDA joined the rest of the world on 2nd February in celebrating #WorldWetlandsDay2024 under the theme: ‘wetlands and human well-being’ .Our team from Machakos Regional Office represented the Authority at Kyangunya Wetland ,in Machakos County for the County level celebrations. This protected area is nestled in the heart of Kalama Sub-County and spans an impressive ½ acre at an altitude of 1,940 meters (5820)) above sea level.
These celebrations were officiated by the Machakos County Government and provided a unique platform to nurture environmental stewardship by fostering a deeper understanding of wetlands and their significance to communities among the attendees. TARDA team conducted an insightful training session covering key aspects of agro-forestry, value addition (grafting & budding) as well as tree nursery establishment and management for the over 200 community members present.
World Wetlands Day is celebrated annually on February 2nd. This date marks the adoption of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in 1971, an international treaty aimed at conserving and sustainably using wetlands around the world.
Our participation as an Authority underlines our commitment to environmental conservation for a more sustainable and resilient Tana and Athi River Basins.
